Need Answer Asap

Explain why, when a younger person has a memory error (blocks information or is absentminded), we are quick to dismiss it, but when an older person experiences the same, we automatically address this memory error and often, become suspect and assume that something is wrong with their mental process. Is this a valid assumption?
