Upon researching healthcare privacy breaches, I came across a huge data breach with LifeBridge Health. LifeBridge Health is a Baltimore-based health system that agreed to pay $9.5 million to settle their healthcare data breach that was caused by a malware within their EHR system for one of their physician practices, which LifeBridge detected in 2018. However, the breach had initially started taking place in 2016. It was 2 years before anything was noticed and action was taken. Can you imagine the amount of data and Convo other personal information could have been obtained at the result of this? According to the HealthIT Security website, ‘the potentially exposed information may have included patients’ names, addresses, dates of birth, diagnoses, medications, clinical and treatment information, insurance information, and, in some instances, Social Security numbers’. Most of the patients’ information was compromised and they experienced identity theft and fraudulent financial transactions that wreaked havoc on their finances. LifeBridge agreed to pay $800,000 to all class members, up to $250 per person for any loss that was not reimbursed, and $5,000 to anyone that could prove monetary loss directly tied to the incident. Claimants could submit multiple claims for any information that was disclosed in the 2018 and 2020 data breaches.

I have personally experienced my personal information being disclosed in different data breaches. I experience severe financial losses due to a data breach within the Experian credit agency database that disclosed my personal information and social security number, which led to a lawsuit that resulted in a very small settlement amount. Is it still possible to file a police report in most states in order to dispute fraudulent items on a person’s credit report?

Hello Class, Convo

During my research I have found the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights. All Breach information is reported at this site. All breaches are shown reported within the last 24 months and are currently under investigation. The data reports name of entity that has been breached, state, type of business, how many people affected, date the breach was submitted, type of breach and how. The most recent one is Monroe Ear Nose and Throat Associates located in MI. This is a healthcare provider, 14500 people were affected by this breach. The breach happened by Hacking/IT incident and was done through Electronic Medical Record/Network Server.

I’ve had my bank card used before that is attached to my bank account. The people were able to get $500 worth of stuff online. I immediately called my bank and reported the information. The bank creates a fraud incident and then gave me a refund of the total amount that I claimed that was not my doing on purchases. This actually happened while I was on travel, which made it more difficult for my trip because I was then out the funds that were taken by the hacker.  Convo
