PART 1

For the statistics project you are completing in this course, you will need to select a relevant topic that will allow you to gather both qualitative and quantitative data. You may gather data from a group of your choice using a data collection instrument (survey or data mining) that you design. Using the results of that collection instrument, you will create a data set, analyze the data, and create a professional report showing the results of the data that you collected.

For this assignment you will choose a topic and create a data collection instrument. When selecting a topic, remember you need to collect both quantitative and qualitative data. Data collection could be done in the form of a survey via a medium such as Survey Monkey or Facebook or through available workplace content such as sales orders. You will want to collect data from approximately 30 observations. This means you will want to survey at least 30 people or select data from 30 different sales orders.

Submit the topic of the study, a rationale (one or two paragraphs) outlining the purpose of the study, and the data collection instrument you created as a Word document. Include relevant survey links if the data is being collected digitally.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

RUBRICS:

-Topic and rationale are clearly explained and include extensive details.

-Data collection instrument is expertly crafted and includes both qualitative and quantitative measures that can be used to create exceptional data sets.

-The writer is clearly in command of standard, written, academic English.

PART 2

Administer the data collection tool you created in the Topic 2 assignment. Using the data you collect, create an Excel table and complete the items below.

1. Create two frequency tables based on two separate questions from your survey.

2. Create a bar graph and a pie chart based on the data in the frequency tables.

3. Determine the class intervals and create frequency distribution for each of the frequency tables.

4. Create one frequency polygon of the data from the frequency distribution.

Create an individual Excel document for each of the required items.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Frequency tables are clearly explained and include extensive details.

Bar graph and pie chart are expertly constructed.

Class intervals and frequency distribution are expertly constructed.

Frequency polygon is expertly constructed.

PART 3

Conduct an analysis of your project data. Prepare the items below based on the data from two of the variables in the data collection instrument.

1. Determine the mean, median, and mode for each of the variables.

2. What is the variance for each set of data for each of the variables?

3. What is the standard deviation for each of the variables?

4. What is the probability that each event occurs in each of the two variables.

Create an individual Excel document for each of the required items. Be sure to show your work.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Mean, median, and mode are complete and include extensive details.

Variance for each set of data for each of the variables is expertly constructed.

Standard deviation for each variable is expertly constructed.

Probability that each event occurs in each of the two variables is expertly constructed.

PART 4

Create confidence intervals related to the interval and ratio-level data you collected.

1. What is the best estimate of the population mean

2. Develop a 95% confidence interval for the population mean. Develop a 90% confidence interval for the population mean. Develop a 98% confidence interval for the population mean.

3. Interpret the confidence interval.

Create an individual Excel document for each of the required items.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Best estimate of the population mean is complete and includes extensive details.

Confidence intervals for the 90%, 95%, and 98% population mean are expertly constructed.

Interpretation of the confidence interval is expertly constructed.

PART 5

Conduct an analysis and hypothesis test of your choice on the data you collected. Write a 250-500 word research summary of the findings generated in the assignments for Topics 2 through 5. The research summary should address the following.

1. Explain what type of analysis and hypothesis test was conducted on the data collected.

2. Summarize the survey results based on the results of the data you analyzed.

3. Include the Excel analysis as part of the document.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Data analysis and hypothesis test are clearly explained and include extensive details.

Summary of survey results is clearly explained and includes extensive details.

Excel analysis is expertly displayed.

The writer is clearly in command of standard, written, academic English.

Complete the problems below from the textbook. You will need to use the “Baseball 2016 Data,” “Lincolnville School District Bus Data,” and the “Century National Bank Data” files for this assignment.

  1. Chapter 11 – Problem 14
  2. Chapter 11 – Problem 41
  3. Chapter 11 – Problem 48
  4. Chapter 11 – Problem 49
  5. Chapter 12 Case A – Century National Bank

For problems requiring computations, please ensure that your Excel file includes the associated cell computations and/or statistics output. This information is needed in order to receive full credit on these problems.

Submit output in one Excel file.

  1. The null and alternate hypotheses are:H0: μ1 ≤ μ2H1: μ1 > μ2 A random sample of 20 items from the first population showed a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. A sample of 16 items for the second population showed a mean of 94 and a standard deviation of 8. Use the .05 significant level.

  1. Refer to the Baseball 2016 data, which report information on the 30 Major League Baseball teams for the 2016 season.
  2. At the .05 significance level, can we conclude that there is a difference in the mean salary of teams in the American League versus teams in the National League?
  3. At the .05 significance level, can we conclude that there is a difference in the mean home attendance of teams in the American League versus teams in the National League?
  4. Compute the mean and the standard deviation of the number of wins for the 10 teams with the highest salaries. Do the same for the 10 teams with the lowest salaries. At the .05 significance level, is there a difference in the mean number of wins for the two groups? At the .05 significance level, is there a difference in the mean attendance for the two groups?
  5. Refer to the Lincolnville School District bus data. Is there a difference in the mean maintenance cost for the diesel versus the gasoline buses? Use the .05 significance level.

  1. Century National Bank Refer to the description of Century National Bank on page 129 at the end of the Review of Chapters 1–4. With many other options available, customers no longer let their money sit in a checking account. For many years the mean checking balance has been $1,600. Do the sample data indicate that the mean account balance has declined from this value? Recent years have also seen an increase in the use of ATM machines. When Mr. Selig took over the bank, the mean number of transactions per month per customer was 8; now he believes it has increased to more than 10. In fact, the advertising agency that prepares TV commercials for Century would like to use this on the new commercial being designed. Is there sufficient evidence to conclude that the mean number of transactions per customer is more than 10 per month? Could the advertising agency say the mean is more than 9 per month? The bank has branch offices in four different cities: Cincinnati, Ohio; Atlanta, Georgia; Louisville, Kentucky; and Erie, Pennsylvania. Mr. Selig would like to know whether there is a difference in the mean checking ac-count balances among the four branches. If there are differences, between which branches do these differences occur?
