When dealing with the socio-economic status composite interval, we want to know the difference in economic status between northeast and west school regions?

**What is the null hypothesis for your question?**

To determine the hull and alternate hypothesis, we need to analyze the Levene’s test results in the independent samples test table. When “p” is less than 0.05, we know that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternate hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the variances are significantly different when p<0.05. When “p” is more than 0.05, the mean-variance are not significantly different, and the null hypothesis is accepted. For instance, the p-value for the socio-economic status composite variable is .025, but the alpha value is 0.05, which indicates that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. The reason why is because .025 (p-value) is less than 0.05.

To answer this question we need to compares the means of the northeast and west regions to tell the difference from each other. For instance, the mean for northeastern schools are 0.1507, and the mean for the western schools are .0003; the difference between the two regions is equal to 0.15. The t-test also tells you how significant the differences are; In other words, it lets you know if those differences could have happened by chance (Glen, 2018).

The dependent variable is socio-economic status composite (Equal variances assumed and not assumed) and it is measure via independent samples test.

The independent variable is the school geographic region, which has two groups: northeast and west. It is measured by group statistics.

We use Cohen d to get the strength of the effect. The formula is 2*t/ √df (Thus formula is only use in independent sample t-test):
