Dealing with geriatric clients (the elderly) can be stressful and demoralizing to the attendants, the relatives, nurse assistants as well as the nurses. Research often suggest that burnout among the UAP nurse assistants is caused by highly demanding and endless dynamics of their working environments. Observing suffering patients, high demands and little rest as well as psychological overworking often cause stress and burnout among clients. (Margo M. C. van Mol, Benoit, & Nijkamp, 2015). Statistical data show that a big proportion (61%) of those who pursue Nurse assistant as a career are mainly between the age of 25-30. 70% are of the feamle gender while only 23% are of the African-American descent. 48% of nurse assistants work in the private facilities in Connecticut (Cooper,et al,2016). Burnout results from high levels of exposure to work distress, emotiional exhautiion as well physical exhaution. The results of burnout is compassion fatihgue. Unstable response to social context such as contionous complains from the old age as well as long time suffering worsens the effects of burnout. However, a clear and standardized definition and therapy to BO is still lacking in the medical context. (Shinan-Altman & Cohen, 2009).
Statement of Purpose
The aim of this study is to evaluate the extent and effects of Stress and Burnout among different age brackets and races of nurse aid workers in a given health facility in Connecticut, USA with specific refernce to those who deal with getriatic clients. While several research publications have been made touching on effects of stress and BO among nurse assistant workers, not many have precisely done nay on those dealing with getriatic clients.
This study further aims at finding out and recommending on the extent and results of BO on each age bracket of nurse assistant workers.
