Wonder Woman is an American superhero film based on a superwoman character. The book series and film originated from the American comic books which were published by DC Comics. The character of Wonder Woman shows a shift from the role of the woman and the female gender in the American societies in the 20th century and that that women hold in today’s world. Feminism is central in the storyline in the sense that it has created women as a half gods and half mortal being who do lack male close peers. Feminist ideas anchored in Wonder woman are a reflection of the state of feminism in the USA today. Currently, feminist federations such as the American Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA) as well as International Women’s Democracy Center(IWDC) are on the rise to promote woman development while overlooking the agenda of promoting equal gender roles in the society (Napikoski, Porizkova). This essay will give a summary of the story behind Woman Wonder. Besides, the essay will point out the instances of feminism in the storyline and relate to the contemporary issue of feminism in the USA today. Lastly, this article will make a comparison between the roles of the female gender in Wonder Woman and that of today’s American woman.

Plot Summary
As Diana the prince enters Louvre, in Paris, France, a van coming from Wayne Enterprises delivers a briefcase from Bruce Wayne which has an old photograph which Diana had previously taken alongside four other men during the first world war (Williams). Diana grew up in Themyscira islands, which is the mighty of the Amazons and a female warrior clan and was secluded from the rest of the community members. Despite her mother Hippolyta’s resistance, she desires to be a woman warrior like the rest of the women. Her mother narrates that Zeus had created man with a good and peaceful nature before they were corrupted by Ares, who is the god of war in the community. She tells Diana about Ares killed other gods till Zeus hit him and forced him to retreat before Zeus created Amazon known as Themyscira where he could hide them from the rest of the world using an enchanted barrier. Hippolyta shows her the God Killer with the hopes that she won’t try to use it.
Hippolyta reluctantly lets Diana train with the rest of the women warriors with a little conviction from Antiope. Diana meets Steve Trevor and becomes surprised to see a man for the first time in her life. Antiope dies leaving Diana to be the leader of the Amazons in pursuit of the God Killer. Diana and Steve become get close and she sees him naked, making her confused by Steve’s explanation of the use of a watch. Diana and Steve resolve to help in the war against Ares and arrive in London where they meet Etta Candy, who happens to be Steve’s secretary. When the two are cornered by a couple of men in an Alley, Diana beats every one of them. They meet Sir Patrick Morgan who has plans to enter into dialogue with the Germans. Steve takes Diana out of the meeting since the men in the room are uncomfortable with her presence but lets her in to translate to Sir Patrick Morgan a notebook that is written in Sumerian. Diana is enraged with the fact that the British General plans to send his soldiers to the Western Front where they are most likely to get killed. Diana, Steve, and the team lead to the frontline of the war. Diana comes across a woman who is distraught by the fact that the German army has taken away her property. She gets disgusted and uses her armor to dawn into the battlefield. Diana beats down the enemy soldiers while Steve and his team follow. Once she takes out most of the soldiers on the ground, the men help Diana leap to a sniper tower, which she instantly demolishes. They start a war against the German soldiers in which Steve aims a bullet at the bombs and sacrifices himself. Diana is in pain and reverts a blast of energy aimed at her by Ares and kills him for good, putting an end to war.

Wonder Woman created women as powerful creatures who are multi-talented in different fields that men are less skilled, which is a reflection of the state of feminism in America today. Diana Prince is created with superhuman powers that make her fights wars intermittently and defeat powerful male soldiers from some of the most significant troops in the world. She is skilled in bullet-pinging with bracelets; lassoing; basic psychology; great strength and athleticism. The author has created a woman in the storyline that conquers the art of war and Is independent from the presence of the men in their midst (Williams). The entire myth of Diana involves women who attempt to safeguard the world from male violence. However, the women do not seek to do so with nurture, but with a much larger form of violence. Themyscira community holds to belief that only women can bring peace and end the war in society (Duggan). War can only be ended by killing Ares, who is the God Killer. Diana’s mother narrates that Zeus had created man with a good and peaceful nature, before they were corrupted by Ares, who is the god of war in the community. Hippolyta describes how hard the other gods had tried to stop Ares, but he kept killing them till Zeus hit him and forced him to retreat. It is with the remaining strength of Zeus that he created the Amazon known as Themyscira where he could hide them from the rest of the world using an enchanted barrier. Diana’s quest to see the great weapon of the community and hence Hippolyta shows her the God Killer, but with the hopes that she won’t try to use it. The course of saving the community is shifted from woman to woman (from General Antiope to Diana Prince). The society today has shifted responsibilities towards the women, by shifting social aspects such as leaderships, careers, parentage and education more on women with the belief that they can do better than men. Wonder woman, therefore reflects on the responsibility that women hold in overcoming social challenges in the society.

Wonder Woman has created a huge difference in the roles between that of the male and those of the female gender. Feminism and various factors that lead to feminism has been highly featured in Wonder Woman’s storyline. The male fighter is conceived in the storyline as an ego ideal for a male audience, starting from the introduction of Bruce Wayne’s willingness to find out the story behind the attached picture of Diana Prince.
