VICKY ANSWER

I was not surprised by the results of the strength finder survey. My top five dominant themes of talent are developer, learner, empathy, harmony, and input.  I have always loved to learn and find the potential in others.  I am currently a nurse educator, and both these traits are needed. In this role, I have been told I am a great listener and have always been able to put myself in someone else’s shoes. I do hate conflict and love to travel. These are both traits of harmony and input theme. Inter professional Organizational And Systems Leadership

The two core values I would like to strengthen are communication and vision.  I tend to listen to reply instead of listening to understand. A good leader listens to understand the employee’s message and adapts their communication style toward the individual’s preferences.  (Ryba, 2020) I tend to get caught up with the excitement of a project and may lose sight of the vision. I need to work on being able to articulate goals and keep team members engaged.  Inter professional Organizational And Systems Leadership

I would like to improve the two strengths identified by the survey: harmony and input. Harmony leaders look for peace, common ground, and cooperation.  (Schubring, 2013) I tend to want to avoid conflict by removing myself from the situation. This is not an excellent quality of a leader; a leader should stay and try to help resolve the situations. Input-themed people “need to collect and archive information, ideas, artifacts or even people (Gallup, 2022)”.  I need to learn to embrace input and articulate the information I have obtained. Whenever I need to educate on a new topic, I must first learn all I can about it. Instead of seeing this as a waste of time, I need to share all information found on the subject.

The two characteristics I would like to strengthen are consistency and self-assurance. I believe I am not always consistent because of my lack of self-assurance. I lack faith in my strengths and tend not to take risks. Consistency is treating people the same way. (Full theme descriptions – Wisconsin balance of state continuum of care … 2000) I tend to give friends more grace than I would give a stranger or myself. This assignment helped me find the strengths in traits I thought were weaknesses.   I have seen empathy and harmony as weaknesses and did not understand how they could be used to be a good leader.

TAMIKA ANSWER

The strength finder’s assessment was fun. I learned a lot about myself. My strengths from the Clifton Assessment were positivity, harmony, restorative, communication, and development. I feel that some speak to me and are accurate. I try to be a positive person and get along with everyone. I’ve always been a peacemaker, not a peace breaker. This means that I try to steer everyone away from confrontation and toward harmony, which is a core value of mine. There is always room for improvement, which means making assessments and interventions.

I could strengthen my values with development, and restorative. Even though I see potential in others, however, everyone is a work in progress and has possibilities. I’m a great problem solver, but my greatest push when faced with complex and unfamiliar problems. Brunt & Morris (2021), Nursing professional development (NPD) practitioners play a critical role in preparing practitioners for current and future roles and helping individuals cope with an ever-changing healthcare environment. This is something as APRNs will face in future practice. Even though I see potential in everyone, this shouldn’t be all that I see, I need to look beyond that.

By identifying my strengths in the assessment, I can work on communication and harmony. Communication brings things to life, energizes, and makes things exciting and vivid. And so, you turn events into stories and practice telling them. Even though it sounds good, communication is the key so I can listen to people more, rather than telling a story. In healthcare communication makes things run so much smoother. When it comes to my strength with harmony, I hold on to peace. In fact, harmony is one of my guiding values. This can burn you out quickly, especially when you find those that love confrontation. Inter professional Organizational And Systems Leadership

The two that I could improve on are leadership and education. Being a leader in nursing takes getting used to. Leadership is not easy, however, once you understand the role it can become second nature. Because some people may not like the way you do things, or even feeling like their voices aren’t being heard can make it challenging. Even being an educator, as you know we are all taught something different, so being able to take what I know and someone else knowledge and research the evidence makes things more prone to implementation. Nursing is a career that is forever changing, which allows each one of us to bring our talents, knowledge, and skills to the bedside.
