1. Complications of Stress: A few months ago, unit manager Tom (not their real name) collapsed on our nursing floor. In the weeks following, she worked back-to-back every day due to the relocation of the hospital from its old location to a new location. This was related to too much stress she had undergone. Upon arrival at the emergency unit, some tests were conducted which shows that my unit manager Tom (not their real name) had a stroke.

2. Environmental Hazard: A few years ago, my skin reacted to the hand sanitizer being used at the workplace. I eventually developed dermatitis and had to undergo series of treatment, some other staffs also had similar complications which resulted to the hospital changing all the hand sanitizers in the hospital.

The previous knowledge I gained is that we all have moments of stress in our lives and how we manage it has a long way on how it will either affect our health positively or negatively. The goal is for us to learn adaptive behaviors and measures to stress. In this case, the Unit Manager’s general adaptation syndrome (GAS) was several due to the long time she exposed herself to stress.

The previous knowledge I gain was from this week’s reading. I learned that several factors contribute to the adverse effect after a chemical exposure which includes the type of exposure, age of the person exposed, level of the exposure, and how often the person was exposed.
