The condition of a workplace environment determines a lot on an organization’s quality of service delivery and its overall performance. Workplace environment entails the relationship amongst employees in the organization, the relationship between team leaders and their teams, and even amongst leaders. A good working environment results directly in employee performance, leading to the organization’s overall good performance. Therefore, leaders of an organization should prioritize giving the employees a conducive working environment before demanding results. Workplace Environment Assessment.

Using the Clerk Healthy Workplace Inventory (Clerk, 2014), my organization was ranked 84, average in performance. Since our organization belongs to the county, such things as lack of diverse ideas and compensations reduced my overall score. The things that boosted my score were; training, teamwork, and availability of opportunities for employees. Workplace Environment Assessment.

Lack of civility at the workplace contributes to poor employee job satisfaction and lack of respect amongst workers, leading to poor patient outcomes. Incivility at the workplace leads to potential emotional and physical distress and can lead to poor quality care and patient outcomes (Armstrong, 2017). Work environment assessment is a tool that can be used to determine the challenges that an organization is going through that make it not meet its goals. Such challenges as poor relationships amongst peers in an organization that directly impacts employees’ poor performance are realized through work environment assessment. When employees, for example, nurses in a hospital, are in a good relationship amongst themselves, they can share ideas and even help each other perform tasks required of them. Workplace Environment Assessment.

I came to realize that civility in the workplace contributes directly to its overall performance. I also realized that effective communication between leaders and the junior staff directly impacts good performance. After conducting my assessment, I realized that in departments where there was a good relationship between the team and their leaders, the way they offered their services to their patients was simply exemplary. In these departments, you cannot tell between the junior employees and their managers. The flow of communication amongst them was smooth and gradual. Everyone knew their role in the department. Whenever one needs assistance, someone came to their aid, even without them asking. These exemplary practices from these departments surprised me. According to the overall performance of the organization, this department was ranked among the best. After my assessment, I realized that these good practices impact directly on the generally good performance. Workplace Environment Assessment.

Feedback is essential too and directly impacts the organization’s overall performance. While conducting my assessment, I wanted to confirm if this was true, and the results after the evaluation proved that it was true. Feedback is a two-way thing. It works between the management and junior employees and vice-versa. Feedback allows the administration to consider and work on the issues raised by the employees, for example, nurses. It also allows the employees to view and work on the issues raised by the management. Workplace Environment Assessment.

Such issues greatly determine the health and civility of the flow of communication amongst employees and their leaders. There are also such issues as customer service. The way nurses treat their patients impacts a lot on the general performance of that medical facility. When nurses work together as a team, it brings about good performance in that hospital since by helping one another, work is done faster and effectively, and results are realized. When there is feedback between management and its employees or between the patients and nurses, results are realized. Workplace Environment Assessment.

Literature Review

Many scholars have related how civility in healthcare refers directly to the direct performance of a health facility. In this case, incivility in healthcare can lead to unsafe working conditions, poor patient care, and increased medical costs (Clark et al., 2011). Because of incivility in healthcare, there will be no one to protect the workers’ working conditions, which will lead to poor service delivery by the nurses, which will directly impact to poor performance by the organization. Poor patient care in a health facility is like poor customer service in other organizations. If a customer is not satisfied with the service provided by an organization, there are greater chances of losing that customer. A health facility can also lose many patients if there is a poor patient-care service by the nurses. Suppose there is the misuse of such products as medicine and other things that facilitate quality healthcare in a health facility. In that case, there definitely will be an increase in medical costs. All these are symptoms of a flawed working healthcare system. Workplace Environment Assessment.

Concerning my assessment, civility in the healthcare system is essential. The way employees relate amongst themselves and the way they communicate with each other matters a lot. Furthermore, the way employees relate to their clients also matters a lot. Suppose these people can speak politely and with courtesy between each other. In that case, raising voices and calling of names will not be there, therefore leading to the overall sound performance of the healthcare facility. Workplace Environment Assessment.

Since my organization has problems such as a lack of ideas and compensation, transformational leadership will come in handy. The managers should be ready to train their teams on leadership skills and allow them to share ideas amongst themselves and between them and their managers. This is also where feedback has to be applied. There should be a good relationship between employees and their managers to allow for effective feedback. Feedback should be from the management down and should also be from the employees up. This shows that feedback is a two-way thing. The nurse managers in my organization should embrace a good relationship between them and the junior nurses to feel free to give feedback. They should also embrace civility to allow for accessible communication amongst themselves and between them and the management. All this will happen through a transformative form of leadership. Workplace Environment Assessment.

Collaborative leadership will help my organization in a way that it will encourage teamwork amongst employees and between them and their leaders. “When we nurture a culture of collaboration, we can synthesize the unique strengths that healthcare workers of all disciplines bring to the workplace” (Clark, 2015). Teamwork is a key tool for any organization since it allows employees to work peacefully together to achieve the organization’s set goals and objectives. Teamwork will also bring leaders to work closely with their teams, allowing them to meet the organization’s objectives. The vision and mission of an organization should be able to encourage teamwork among all its employees. Teamwork should also be one of the organization’s co-values. The team leaders should be able to build cohesive and effective teams. This will allow for a supportive team that will be able to do anything to meet the organization’s objectives. Workplace Environment Assessment.

My organization will implement most of these values to create a conducive working environment and achieve its goals. Leaders will encourage teamwork whereby employees will work collaboratively to achieve the goals and objectives of the company. Patients will also be served with the utmost respect and will be attended to as fast as possible. Customer service will be a priority in my organization. I will encourage civility amongst my colleagues to maintain respect amongst all employees. Workplace Environment Assessment.

Recommendations

In my work environment assessment, I came across many shortcomings in the organizations that need to be implemented to achieve optimum results. Lack of teamwork is the main shortcoming that I came across. If employees of any organization do not work together as a team, it will directly impact its lack of performance. If employees of an organization do not work together, the company will never realize its goals and objectives. Collaboration amongst the employees or even leaders will bring about an organization achieving its goals and objectives. To bring about teamwork, leaders should always encourage the staff to work in groups and allocate specific tasks to achieve by working together. This strategy will help mold these employees and make it a norm for them to work together to achieve the company’s goals. Workplace Environment Assessment.

Another shortcoming that I came across had to do with the feedback. Feedback is a significant value in the organization. Feedback should be a two-way thing whereby employees give feedback as well as their leaders. This ensures that employees are open to express themselves in different ways to the management through feedback. The managers should always respond to feedback positively to create an atmosphere of fear that may force the team not to give feedback. The administration should respond to feedback as fast as possible and with the utmost consideration. The management should also learn to provide feedback to the junior employees, and in this situation, the employees should respond to feedback positively and as fast as possible. They should also respond with utmost seriousness and react to it entirely. Generally, feedback is an essential tool in communication between the management and its employees. Workplace Environment Assessment.

There are also strategies that I recommend that will help implement successful practices in my organization. Such strategies are communication and training. Training of employees helps an organization a lot in achieving its goals and objectives. Training will help the employees know the organization’s rules and regulations and update them whenever there are changes. It will also keep the employees and management up to date on new products or services that the organization offers. It also allows the employees to be reminded of their job description and what they were employed to do. All these allow for the organization to achieve its goals and objectives. Workplace Environment Assessment.

Communication is another significant value in the organization. Poor communication amongst employees will directly lead to poor performance in the organization. This is where civility comes in: if the people working together are not polite and courtiers, disagreement will be inevitable. This will destruct them from working together to achieve the goals of the organization. Leaders of an organization should make it a habit for them to interact with employees freely. This will allow accessible communication amongst employees and between them and the management. Free interaction and communication amongst people in an organization create a good working environment. This will enable them to work together freely to attain the organization’s goals and objectives. A common language should always be used to allow employees to communicate effectively amongst themselves. I recommend that both communication and training be implemented in the organization to achieve optimum results for the organization’s goals and objectives. Both the managers and the employees should work together to achieve the organization’s goals by implementing these recommendations. Workplace Environment Assessment.
