The Assignment:
1. Find one interesting image in which money is central.(Link provided above)
a. Instructions for searching are below. You may NOT use Google Images.
2. Situate your image in its simple context:
a. What kind of image are you looking at (painting, photograph, fresco, woodcut, ad, etc.)?
b. Who made it, where, when and why?
i. If you don’t have this information and can’t figure it out, use your best judgment,
and in your writing, use words like “the photographer likely” or “most likely from
the 1930s or 1940s”, etc.

3. Describe the image and the messages it encodes.
a. Accurately describe the image – coloring (if relevant), what is represented, how those figures are represented, the tone of the image, etc.
4. Discuss and elaborate on the image and what you think it means / “says”:
a. What does money mean (or what does it do) in the image?
b. Draw on readings or lecture material we have covered in the course to flesh out your “reading” of the image.
c. The bulk of your word count should focus on this task.
