Transitions in Professional Nursing

Nursing certification plays an integral role in promoting positive patient outcomes. Certified nurses are able to make informed decisions and translate evidence-based literature to practice. Certified nurses often take the lead in preventing adverse events in health care environments such as patient falls, pressure injuries, and hospital-acquired infections. In an article titled “Making the Case for Nursing Specialty,” Blozen (2016) argues that nursing certification plays an integral role in improving personal satisfaction and patient care. Assigned Article Summary

Nurses in the United States are increasingly pursuing certification in their specialty areas. According to Blozen (2016), certifications open doors for nurses to not only improve patient care, but to also increase their job satisfaction. The benefits of certification are far and wide, ranging from improved professionalism to increased job opportunities and recognition. Blozen (2019) asserts that specialty certification from a legit nursing organization supports and validates the nursing profession and personal professionalism. Once one acquires a nursing degree, they can validate their professionalism and experience by certification. As such, certification elevates and affirms one’s commitment to deliver high-quality work.

The process of acquiring certification is an elaborate one. Blozen (2016) identifies steps that nurses can take to acquire certification. For instance, most certifying organizations requires completion of an examination to obtain initial nursing certification. Thereafter, a nurse can continue education to renew the certification. American nurses have over 180 nursing specialty certifications to choose from. They may begin with self-reflection and research in order to identify one that meets their career goals. Impact of Assigned Article Content on Future Practice

The proposed article provides prerequisites to attaining a professional status as a nurse. Accordingly, I have learned that in the face of renewed efforts by policymakers and health care professionals to improve patient care and safety practices, future nurses will have to acquire certifications as proof of competence in meeting such expectations. Therefore, the article provides more insights into the future benefits of certification in helping health organizations to gain a competitive edge over their rivals. In order to be a better proffesional, I will get the certifications needed to improve my abilities and skills. I think that getting a certification not only will be benefitial for myself, biut for the company I will be working for.

Conclusion

Seeking professional certification is one of the most important goals of a nursing professional. Certification benefits both a nurse and the organization that they work for. Certification can support a firm to differentiate itself from others and demonstrate that they have skilled and experienced nursing professionals. Despite the fact pursuing a certification could be hesitating, this can go a long way in improving a firm’s operational efficiency and positive patient outcomes. Transitions in Professional Nursing

The article talks about how failure to achieve objective or a goal can really make one lose confidence and doubt their abilities and skills. Susan, one of the nurses fails her critical care examination (Massachusetts, 2016). This, event makes her lose her confidence in her professionalism. She doubts her knowledge and skills and this affected other areas of her life as she questions her decisions. Therefore, this happens to almost everyone and [positive bouncing back is called resiliency (Hood, 2018). Resiliency is founded in our minds and beliefs. As a result Susan need to be resilient so that her career can flourish. Resiliency will enable her to solve problems at hand in life. Resilient people views struggle as a challenge, they don’t see it as a reflection of their own skills and career. Perhaps, for Susan to bounce back should change her limiting belief by viewing herself as a victim. Then she should stop ruminating over the whole issue. The following are factors to build residency back. Developing gratitude attitudes, start meditation or practicing yoga, work on the wellness habit, then lastly surround yourself with people that support you.

Impact on my life

This article is a must read for any career person. Personally I will not only apply it in my career by even in my examinations. For instance, I will not blame myself for the difficulties in life. This will only reduce my confidence in my line of duty. Therefore, I will always seek resiliency and not judge the event or difficulty in terms of my career but as a challenge. By not making myself a victim this will improve my resilience (Hood, 2018). To improve my level of resiliency will always exercise gratitude attitude, surround myself with people who support, improve personal habits, and focus on my past success and not give a priority to my past events. Through this I will not only improve my confidence but also resiliency. In summary, failure is supposed to be used as a lesson and not to paralyze events in our life.
